Editing a finished reel
Open a finished reel as an editable project of its scenes, voice, music and captions, fine-tune it with no credits, and update its post.
When an AI reel is finished, you can open it in the Studio Editor as a project made of its own parts: its scenes, voice, music, captions, hook, end card and logo. Use this to fine-tune a reel, with trims, order, speed, colour, captions and text, without making the AI shots again.
Open a reel in the editor
Any of these works:
- On the reel's post, click Open in the Editor in "Your reel is ready", or ✎ Edit under the video.
- In your Library, hover the reel and click Edit, or open its ⋯ menu and choose Open in the Editor.
The first time, you'll see Opening your reel in the Editor for 10 to 30 seconds while its parts are laid out on the timeline. After that, ✎ Continue editing reopens your project with your changes.
What you'll see
The project is named after your reel, with "· edit" at the end. On a computer, a badge in the top bar says from your reel with the number of scenes or takes.
The timeline holds the reel's own parts:
- Scenes: each scene's clip, cut exactly where the reel cut it, and named the way your storyboard named it, such as "Scene 1 · Presenter" or "Scene 4 · B-roll". A long-take reel has Takes, with Cutaways over them.
- Voice: the narration.
- Music: the reel's own track, lowered under speech.
- Captions: in the reel's caption style, editable line by line.
- Hook and end card: as text you can edit.
- Logo: over the end card.
Every clip has the reel's look: its colour, film tone, vignette and texture. It plays and sounds just like your finished reel.
What you can change
Everything you can do to any clip, you can do here, and it uses no credits:
- Trim, reorder, split and change the speed of scenes.
- Change colour and framing.
- Edit, restyle or retime captions.
- Rewrite the hook or end card.
- Change the music level, or add new sound.
- Use AI tools such as ★ Change the picture on a scene. These show their price before you start.
A scene's settings say "from your reel" and remind you that trimming, reordering, speed and colour use no credits.
Make a scene again
To make a scene's AI shot again, click Regenerate this scene on the reel's page ↗ in the scene's settings. For a long-take reel, the link reads Redo a take or action shot on the reel's page ↗. It opens the reel's post at that scene, where making it again uses credits as usual.
Put your edit back on the post
- Click Publish →.
- Choose Update the post it came from.
- Click Continue →.
The post keeps its current video until the new one is ready, so it's never left without one. The video panel says it's rendering and updates by itself, usually within 1 to 5 minutes. Your reel itself isn't changed.
You can also choose Make it a post to publish the edit as a separate post. See Publishing and exporting.
If your edit won't open
If a saved edit can't be read, the page says This edit couldn't be opened. Your reel itself is unchanged. Click Rebuild from the reel to set the old edit aside and build a fresh one from the reel.
If the reel won't open in the editor at all, the page says why, with Try again and Go back. A reel has to be finished before it can be opened in the editor.
