Text, logos, stickers, templates and captions

Add styled text, shapes, your logo, stickers and templates, and captions from speech with styles, key words, emoji and SRT.

This guide covers everything you put on top of the picture: styled text and shapes, your logo and stickers, ready-made templates, and captions made from the speech in your video.

Add text

Use this for a hook, a title, a price or a call to action.

  1. Move the playhead to where the text should appear.
  2. Click Text in the tools on the left.
  3. Tap a style:
    • Headline: a big bold hook for the first seconds.
    • Banner: text on a coloured box — your brand colour when you have one, otherwise a neutral near-black.
    • Impact: tall condensed capitals.
    • Handwritten: a personal note.
    • Elegant: a serif title card.
    • Call to action: an end card line.
  4. The text appears at the playhead and is selected. Type your words in the Text box on the right.

Drag the text on the picture to move it. Drag a corner to resize it, and drag the round handle to turn it.

Good to know: if there's already text on the text track at that moment, the new text goes on a new text track. To remove text, delete the item. Emptying the box doesn't remove it.

Style your text

Select the text to see its settings.

  • Style:
    • Font: 16 fonts. If your plan includes the brand kit, your brand fonts are listed first with ★.
    • Size: in pixels of the finished video.
    • Colour: your brand colours are offered first.
    • Weight: Bold and Italic. Some display fonts have one weight only, and the settings say so.
    • Outline: a line around each letter, with its width and colour.
    • Box: a coloured box behind the words. Turning on the box turns off the outline.
  • Motion: how it comes in (None, Fade, Pop, Slide up, Typewriter) and goes out (None, Fade).
  • Placement: Tilt, Opacity and On screen, which is how many seconds it stays up. You can also drag its edges on the timeline.

Add a shape or a button

  1. Click Text, then scroll to Shapes.
  2. Tap Button, Rectangle, Rounded or Circle. Shapes use your brand colour (a neutral near-black when you don't have one).

A Button adds a pill with its own words on top, so you can edit the words like any text. Select a shape to set its Kind, Rounding, Fill, Fill strength, Outline, size, tilt and opacity.

Add your logo

  1. Click Brand in the tools on the left.
  2. Under Brand kit, tap your logo.

Your logo goes in the top-right corner, from the start of the video to its current end.

Good to know:

  • If you add more clips afterwards, drag the logo's right edge or change its Duration so it covers them too.
  • The brand kit is on plans with custom branding. On other plans it shows See plans, and you can still add your logo from Media like any image.
  • If you don't have a brand yet, choose Set up a brand.

Add stickers

  1. Click Brand and scroll to Stickers.
  2. Pick a pack, then tap a sticker.

It's added at the playhead for 3 seconds. Drag it on the picture to place it.

Use a template

Templates lay ready-styled text over your video at the right moments.

  1. Add at least one clip. Templates need a clip so they can fit its length.
  2. Click Templates and tap one:
    • Hook + call to action: a bold opening line, then a closing ask.
    • Title card: an elegant title over the first shot.
    • Announcement: news up front, where to get it at the end.
    • Personal note: a handwritten line mid-video.
  3. Change any of the words afterwards. Your clips aren't touched.

Add captions from speech

Captions are written from the speech in your clips and voice-overs, across the whole project. They follow your cuts, speed changes and clip order.

  1. Click Captions in the tools on the left.
  2. Click Add captions from speech.
  3. The button reads Listening to your clips… while it works, usually a few seconds per minute of speech. You can keep editing meanwhile. If it takes more than a few minutes, it stops and tells you, so you can try again later.
  4. The captions appear on a Captions track, and the rest of the panel opens up.

It's included in your plan.

Good to know:

  • Captions come from clips you can hear and from sounds set to Voice. Music and effects aren't captioned.
  • Once you have captions, the button reads Redo from speech. Redo writes fresh lines that match your current cuts and keeps your style.
  • If you've fixed words by hand, Redo asks first, and tells you how many words you fixed:
    • Keep my fixes (recommended): fresh lines everywhere else, and your fixed lines stay wherever that speech is still in your video, even if a cut moved it. A fixed line whose speech you've since cut or changed reads as heard again; a note under the button says how many, and Undo brings them back.
    • Replace everything: every line is fresh from the speech. Undo brings your fixed words back.
    • Cancel leaves your captions as they are.
  • Redo is one step: Undo puts back the captions exactly as they were before it.
  • If there's no speech, you'll see "We didn't hear any speech in this project's clips."

Pick a caption style

Under Style, tap one of six looks:

  • Bold pop: heavy white words, with the spoken word popping in colour.
  • Boxed: words on a solid colour band.
  • Karaoke: each word fills with colour as it's said.
  • Minimal: small, clean and still.
  • Loud: big capitals for hooks and hype.
  • Editorial: a calm serif for stories and explainers.

Every line changes at once. Where a style has an accent colour, it uses your brand colour if you have one.

Highlight key words and add emoji

Under Extras:

  • Highlight key words: AI colours the one or two words that carry each line. Change the colour under Key word colour.
  • Add emoji: AI adds an emoji above some lines, at most one line in three and never two in a row.
  • Pick again: asks for fresh choices, for example after you've edited lines.

Neither ever changes your words, and both are included in your plan. Editing a line's words clears that line's key words. Use Pick again to choose them afresh.

Fine-tune the caption look

Under Fine-tune:

  • Font, Size and Capitals.
  • Position: Auto, Top, Middle or Bottom. On a vertical video, Auto keeps captions clear of every app's buttons and caption area, whichever app the post goes to.
  • Words per line: takes effect the next time you use Redo from speech.
  • Colour.
  • Word effect: None, Highlight (the spoken word changes colour) or Karaoke (each word fills as it's said), with a Spoken word colour.
  • Band: a coloured band behind the words, with a Band colour.
  • Tilt.

You can also drag the captions anywhere on the picture. To put them back in a standard place, pick a Position.

Edit, retime, split and merge lines

The Lines section lists every caption line. The line under the playhead is highlighted.

  • Fix the words: click in a line and type.
  • Change the timing: type a new start or end time and press Enter. You can also drag a line's block on the Captions track, or drag its edges.
  • Split: click in the words where you want the cut, then click Split.
  • Merge ↓: joins the line with the next one.
  • Remove: deletes the line. ⌘Z brings it back.
  • ▸ jumps the playhead to that line.

Fillers cut by Remove ums and pauses are listed struck through, marked "removed with the pause".

Download captions as a subtitle file

Use this to upload captions with your video on YouTube or another site. Click Download SRT under Files in the Captions panel, or open Export in the top bar and choose Captions (SRT).

Translating captions into other languages is shown as Translate · coming later.

Use a whole-video look

Whole-video looks, at the bottom of the Captions panel, set a caption style and a matching colour look on every clip and photo on your video tracks in one tap. Choose Clean, Bold Pop, Karaoke, Vibrant, Cinematic or Minimal Mono.

Good to know: a whole-video look replaces each clip's own colour look and the caption position. ⌘Z undoes it.
