Finding shorts in a long video
Turn a long talking video into vertical, captioned shorts: let AI find the best moments or ask for a specific one, then create and edit clips.
Find shorts turns one longer talking video, such as a podcast, a webinar or a talk to camera, into several vertical, captioned short clips. You can let AI find the best moments, or ask for a specific one.
Finding and creating clips is included in your plan. It costs no credits.
Start from a long video
Any of these opens Find shorts:
- In AI Studio, under Edit and finish, click A long video to clip. Pick a video from your Library or Upload from device, then press Find shorts →.
- In your Library, hover a video and click ✂ Shorts, or open its ⋯ menu and choose Find shorts (AI).
- On a video post, click ✂ Find shorts.
At the top of the page, a row of steps shows where you are: Upload, Listen, Find the moments, Pick your clips and Clips ready.
Find the best moments
- Leave Looking for a specific moment? (optional) empty.
- Click Find shorts (included — no credits).
- If the video hasn't been transcribed yet, it does that first, which can take a minute or two on a long video. Then it reads the transcript to find the moments, usually in under a minute. You can leave the page and come back.
Find a specific moment
- In Looking for a specific moment? (optional), type what you're after, for example "where I talk about pricing".
- Click Find this moment (included — no credits), or press Enter.
You'll see only the clips that match. If nothing matches, it says so, with Look again and Find the best moments instead. After a request, Show the best moments instead goes back to the best moments in the whole video.
Review and pick your clips
Each suggested clip shows its time range and length, a score, the hook text and why it was picked.
- ▶ Preview clip plays it.
- Edit lets you change the hook text and the start and end times. Click Save or Cancel.
- Dismiss hides a clip. Dismissed clips are kept under a "dismissed" list, and Restore brings one back.
- Create clip makes it.
Create your clips
Click Create clip on each one you want. Each becomes a vertical, captioned short, usually in a minute or two. They appear in your Library as they finish, and you can leave the page.
When a clip is ready, its card shows ✓ Added to library, with:
- Open in the Editor: to trim it, add text, music, auto-zoom and more. See Getting started.
- Schedule: to post it.
To look again, click Re-scan (included), or type a new request.
Good to know:
- The video must be longer than 20 seconds and have clear speech. Any shape of video works, and the clips are always vertical (9:16) with captions burned in.
- Start and end times snap to scene cuts.
- You can create up to 10 clips from one video. To make room, delete a clip you've already made.
- Uploads are kept for 7 days for clipping. After that, upload the video again.
- If a clip doesn't render, nothing is charged. Create it again or re-scan. If it keeps happening, email support@vibeday.com.
